THERMAL VISION

Through the use of infrared cameras and automation software, impending equipment failures can be detected anytime, day or night, at a remote monitoring location. The net effect is increased reliability and reduced cost.

In the paper and board industry, management of risk arising from fire hazards is a critical part of mill operations and is why a large paper manufacturer turned to Pieper Automation to design a solution to prevent and detect fire before it happens. Pieper Automation installed a fire prevention system for a client using FLIR cameras to monitor multiple machine areas with high fire risk. These areas included large heated paper rolls and bearing locations. The system continuously monitored temperatures up to 302°F at a rate of 9Hz. The solution included a Beckhoff Controller which collected and evaluated temperatures against user set limits. The user can set separate limits for alarming machine shut down and fire suppression.
