EXPERTISE MATTERS

Pieper Automation is your expert source for all your press needs – OSHA Compliance, Press Operational Safety, and Predictive Maintenance Work schedule to avoid costly breakdowns.

A key factor, which contributes to the dangers of operating presses, is a lack of maintenance. An unmaintained press or press brake, especially one with damaged tooling, can put both the machine and operator at risk for serious injury.

To keep equipment and employees safe it is essential that a press, as well as other machinery not only be thoroughly inspected to ensure all mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components and systems, are operationally safe, but equally, a maintenance and inspection program be established and implemented to keep machines in top running condition over time. This program should include periodic inspections of each machine to ensure that, among other things, items such as; clutch and brake mechanism and mechanical linkages are all operating and used properly, as well as the press is operating at its proper speed, nor is any part of the machine worn, damaged or not operating correctly.

Pieper Automation has experienced inspectors with OHSA 1910.217 certification and will visit your site to evaluate the mechanical operation and safety compliance of all presses onsite. Pieper Automation’s Press Safety Inspection Service will help your organization meet OSHA 29 CFR 1910.212 and 1910.217 regulations, which require a company, establish and follow a program of periodic inspections of its press machines. These regulations and inspection program are designed to ensure that the press, together with its safeguards and ancillary equipment, are all in safe working condition and properly adjusted. OSHA standards also requires that companies immediately replace or repair any part of a press that is worn, damaged or not operating correctly, before a press can be used again.

Pieper Automation’s OSHA Press Inspection team will help your company meet OSHA 1910.217 requirements and develop a detailed report showing your inspection meets these requirements. Our inspection process, whether a punch press or press brake, includes performing a number of function/operation tests including; press stop times, safety distance measurements, and inspection of safeguards and controls. In addition, a visual mechanical inspection will assess the proper functioning of the press, condition of the press’s safeguarding, controls, lockout / tag out devices, NFPA 79 electrical compliance and any auxiliary safeguarding.

An inspection by Pieper Automation can ensure the equipment’s mechanical status and, as part of a scheduled preventive maintenance program, will help prevent breakdowns that can lead to costly production delays. In addition, per OSHA/ANSI requirements, Pieper Automation will provide training for anyone who inspects, maintains, or operates mechanical power presses.
